Sechseläuten (Zürich German: Sächsilüüte) is a traditional spring holiday in the Swiss city of Zürich celebrated in its current form, usually on the 3rd Monday of April, since the early 20th century. The Burning of the Böögg or Snowman occurs.

  • Day 3 - To celebrate the start of spring this country does it in a grand way that dates back all the way to the 16th century! When flowers begin to bloom, a snowman is burned at a stake. What country does this?

    Switzerland

This Swiss celebration is known as the Böögg, marking the end of winter. The snowman is typically filled with explosives, and the summer weather in Switzerland is predicted by how fast the Böögg fires burn.

Optimal summer weather conditions are expected the faster the fire burns its way to the head of the snowman. If an explosion occurs within 6 - 10 minutes, summer will be sunny and dry. If an explosion occurs within 10 - 15 minutes, summer will be rainy.
