I'm going to watch tennis, obviously, but also my other favorite sports - swimming, athletics and gymnastics and I will try to follow all Serbian teams. I don't have high expectations, it's better like that. :)
Guarderò il tennis, ovviamente, ma anche gli altri miei sport preferiti: nuoto, atletica e ginnastica e cercherò di seguire tutte le squadre serbe. Non ho grandi aspettative, è meglio così. :)

As for me, I will surely be watching the gymnastics competitions, hoping that my fellow Romanians will get a few medals.

I'm dreading the opening ceremony! There was a report out a while ago about the opening ceremony saying it was sheep and cows in a "field" as such. I know that is not all of the opening ceremony and there will be a lot more to it than that....I hope it is a lot more interesting than sheep and cows in a field.

Ho paura della cerimonia di apertura! Tempo fa è uscito un rapporto sulla cerimonia di apertura in cui si diceva che c'erano pecore e mucche in un "campo" in quanto tale. So che la cerimonia di apertura non è finita e ci sarà molto di più... spero che sia molto più interessante delle pecore e delle mucche in un campo.

Yes Alex, we are hoping but many actually don't expect him to win a gold medal. I heard many people talking about his form and his tennis and it sounds like they would be surprised if he wins.

Sono in terapia fisica per la parte bassa della schiena ormai da più di un mese e sto scherzando con un altro paziente (ha un ginocchio infortunato) sul fatto che in realtà ci stiamo preparando per i giochi olimpici. I enjoyed the ceremony, it was quite creative and spectacular.
The Muhammad Ali moment gave me goose bumps, the man is a legend and it's great that he made the effort to be on the stadium for the opening ceremony.
Mi è piaciuta la cerimonia, è stata piuttosto creativa e spettacolare.
Il momento di Muhammad Ali mi ha fatto venire la pelle d'oca, quell'uomo è una leggenda ed è fantastico che abbia fatto lo sforzo di essere allo stadio per la cerimonia di apertura.

The ceremony was ok, I wasn't impressed. The music part of it was fantastic starting with Muse - Map of the Problematique and ending it with Hey Jude - that was mind-blowing.
I think that everything was a bit too slow and too sad for such an event.
Regarding Muhammad Ali, I have mixed feelings. He's an absolutely fantastic sportsman, but he is very sick and he didn't need this, so he deserves a huge respect for showing up.
La cerimonia è andata bene, non sono rimasto colpito. La parte musicale è stata fantastica, a cominciare da Muse - Map of the Problematique e terminando con Hey Jude - che è stato strabiliante.
Penso che tutto sia stato un po' troppo lento e troppo triste per un evento del genere.
Per quanto riguarda Muhammad Ali, ho sentimenti contrastanti. È uno sportivo assolutamente fantastico, ma è molto malato e non ne aveva bisogno, quindi merita un enorme rispetto per essersi presentato.

As I said before, I really quite enjoyed it...some bits more than other bits but overall, I wasn't disappointed. It really was Britain through the years.
So my favourite (and perhaps some sad bits thrown in too) were:
The coming together of the 5 rings
Mr Bean and the Chariots of Fire music and his film
The James Bond bit
The Olympic flag bit - Mohammad Ali (bless his heart)
The music (heavenly singing and drums) when the 7 nominated "future" olympians ran round the stadium with the torch,
The lighting of the olympic flame - a touch of genius in my opinion.

Come ho detto prima, mi è davvero piaciuto... alcune parti più di altre, ma nel complesso non sono rimasto deluso. È stata davvero la Gran Bretagna nel corso degli anni.
Quindi i miei preferiti (e forse anche alcuni pezzi tristi) sono stati:
L'incontro dei 5 anelli
La musica di Mr Bean e i Carri di Fuoco e il suo film
La parte di James Bond
Il pezzo della bandiera olimpica - Mohammad Ali (che benedica il suo cuore)
La musica (canti celestiali e tamburi) quando i 7 olimpionici nominati "futuri" correvano intorno allo stadio con la fiaccola,
L'accensione della fiamma olimpica secondo me è un tocco di genialità.

Just watched Michael Phelps (Men's Swimming Team USA) come in second and the world record for gold medals in three consecutive Olympic events slips through his fingers. So disappointing. They were saying he didn't train for these Olympic Games. Not sure it was such a smart idea. Bet he's kicking himself now. We will see if he becomes the most "decorated" Olympic athlete. For that, he still has a chance.
Ho appena visto Michael Phelps (squadra di nuoto maschile USA) arrivare secondo e il record mondiale di medaglie d'oro in tre eventi olimpici consecutivi gli scivola tra le dita. Così deludente. Dicevano che non si era allenato per queste Olimpiadi. Non sono sicuro che fosse un'idea così intelligente. Scommetto che adesso si sta prendendo a calci. Vedremo se diventerà l'atleta olimpico più “decorato”. Per questo ha ancora una possibilità.

Normally you can't watch the BBC online if you are outside the UK. But I've found a way around that ;) If anyone is interested I can share a link.

Normalmente non puoi guardare la BBC online se sei fuori dal Regno Unito. Ma ho trovato un modo per aggirare il problema ;) Se qualcuno è interessato posso condividere un link.

I remember that we used to have our own Olympics when I was a kid. I used to gather the kids from the neighbourhood and have competitions, setting records and so on. I remember I had a notebook in which I was writing down all the performances. We didn't have all the Olympic sports represented though, just running, long jump, high jump and a few others.
My grandma banned the boxing competition after my cousin punched another kid pretty hard in the stomach. It was a knock-out though :)

Ricordo che quando ero bambino avevamo le nostre Olimpiadi. Radunavo i ragazzi del quartiere e organizzavo gare, stabilivo record e così via. Ricordo che avevo un quaderno su cui annotavo tutte le esibizioni. Tuttavia non avevamo rappresentato tutti gli sport olimpici, solo la corsa, il salto in lungo, il salto in alto e pochi altri.
Mia nonna ha vietato la gara di boxe dopo che mio cugino ha dato un pugno piuttosto forte allo stomaco a un altro bambino. Comunque è stato un knockout :)

I'm familiar with some links where I can watch Olympic games but even though I have a really good internet connection, the picture is not always great, and my eyes start to hurt quickly. I prefer to watch sports on TV.

Conosco alcuni link da cui posso guardare i giochi olimpici, ma anche se ho una connessione Internet davvero buona, l'immagine non è sempre eccezionale e gli occhi iniziano a farmi male rapidamente. Preferisco guardare lo sport in TV.

I'm not a big fan of women's boxing either. Women are rather delicate creatures and seeing them punching one another does look kinda weird.
However, I enjoyed watching "Million Dollar Baby" ;)

Neanche io sono un grande fan della boxe femminile. Le donne sono creature piuttosto delicate e vederle prendersi a pugni a vicenda sembra piuttosto strano.
