The Tour de France kicked off yesterday with an eventful stage around Nice, there have been plenty of crashes on a rainy day and a sprint that was won by Norway's Alexander Kristoff.

Julian Alaphilippe pulled off a superb victory today, and he also grabbed the yellow jersey as Alexander Kristoff fell minutes behind after the day's climbs. Alaphilippe attacked on the last climb of the day and then beat Hirschi and Yates in the final sprint.

Primoz Roglic established himself as the early favourite for the general classification win today, his team dominated the final climb and then he applied the finishing touch to get the stage victory. Fellow Slovenian rider Tadej Pogacar finished second, while the most of the other general classification contenders were able to finish with the first group. Julian Alaphilippe did very well to stick with the best climbers and retains the yellow jersey for now.

We have another mountain stage today, there's a first-category climb in there that should do a lot of damage. We had a crazy stage today, the wind caused all sorts of problems and we had a reduced sprint instead of a massive one. That allowed Wout Van Aert to claim his second stage victory in just three days, but also gave some GC contenders the opportunity to distance some of their rivals. Tadej Pogacar and Mikel Landa lost time as they were caught out of the peloton due to technical issues, while Richie Porte and Bauke Mollema also lost over a minute.

We had a breakaway victory today after all, Nans Peters was strong enough and determined to ride clear of everybody else and claim the biggest win of his career. Among the favourites, Tadej Pogacar was the most determined to attack after having lost time yesterday, and the Slovenian eventually managed to claw back 40 seconds. Adam Yates lost contact with the main group on the final climb but then managed to recover and keep the yellow jersey. Julian Alaphilippe had a terrible day and ended up losing around 12 minutes, no more dreams of yellow jerseys for him!  

Thibaut Pinot also got dropped and lost over 9 minutes, his dreams of general classification glory are over as well.

Team Jumbo-Visma dominated the battle today as they set the pace on the three climbs and made Roglic's rivals suffer. Egan Bernal and Nairo Quintana paid the heaviest prices as they lost several minutes, but Tadej Pogacar held firm and even had enough in the legs to sprint for the stage win. Rigoberto Uran moved up to third place in the general classification, while title holder Egan Bernal dropped out of the top ten.

Today's stage could be the one that decides who wins this year's Tour de France. The route features two special-category climbs, first the famous Col de la Madeleine and then, at the finish, the 21.5km ascent to the top of Col de la Loze. That climb has never featured in the Tour before, simply because it used to be a ski slope and not a road.

As expected, today's tough climbs have made numerous victims. One of them didn't even dare to start the stage, last year's winner Egan Bernal retired during the morning after having collected heavy delays in the previous days. As for the others, Miguel Angel Lopez was the strongest as he rode clear of the bunch on the punishing slopes of the final climb, while Roglic added a few more seconds between him and Pogacar. Lopez moved up to third spot in the general classification, while Uran dropped to sixth. Veteran Alejandro Valverde had a great ride and he moved into the top ten overall.

Team Ineos finally had a satisfaction and Michal Kwiatkowski finally grabbed his first ever Grand Tour stage win as he rode to the finish together with his team mate Richard Carapaz, who is the new leader in the King of the Mountain classification.
