According to the BBC a woman owed a £1m gambling debt to the Ritz Club casino from April 2012.
In December 2012, Nora Nora Al-Daher, wife of the foreign minister of Oman, paid the casino £1m of the actual £2m debt she accumulated in a single night. A court ruling requires her to pay the remainder plus interest.
Her court statements revealed that she spent another $5 million in Las Vegas within months of her loss at the Ritz.
Al-Daher is a self-proclaimed gambling addict and claims that she was taken advantage of by the Ritz.
No matter how or small the loss is, do you think it's valid to claim that the casino takes advantage? Or does the amount of the loss have something to do with it?

I believe individuals should bet what they can afford and accept legitimate losses - but in this case I suspect the Ritz took advantage of this woman because of her financial status and allowed her to run up a massive debt, which I'm sure they would not do for most customers. I wouldn't be surprised if the Las Vegas casino was also aware of her gambling habits and yet only too happy to take her wagers, whether or not she had a problem. Nevertheless, at the end of the day this woman did knowingly lose all that money and should pay up if she has the means to do so. I hope she has learned a lesson and is getting the help she needs to deal with what looks like a behavioural addiction.
