The Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells was scheduled to start on Thursday but it won't happen, the COVID-19 epidemic led to the cancellation of the event. 

The ATP have just announced that the whole tour will be suspended for six weeks. The following tournaments will not take place: 

• Miami Open presented by Itau
• Fayez Sarofim & Co U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston
• Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech
• Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters
• Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell
• Hungarian Open in Budapest

A new official announcement today: the ATP has extended the suspension of the ATP Tour through to July 31. 

That means the tournaments in Hamburg, Bastad, Newport, Los Cabos, Gstaad, Umag, Atlanta and Kitzbuhel will not take place this season. 

The ATP has designed a revised calendar, which aims to bring our beloved tournaments back on track in August. 

Here are the most important dates in this calendar: 

Friday 14 August - the ATP Tour restarts with the Citi Open, the ATP 500 event in Washington, D.C.

31 August – 13 September - US Open

27 September – 11 October - French Open, with the Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia to be played in previous weeks. 

Oh well, world number one Novak Djokovic has the coronavirus, along with several other players that took part in his friendly tournament. I guess that says a lot about how difficult it is to restart the ATP Tour under the current circumstances... 

It seems the ATP Tour will restart with the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on August 22, and then the players will take on the US Open. However, Australian player Nick Kyrgios has already announced that he will not take part in the US Open due to coronavirus concerns.
