Happy Chilly New Year!
I've never been one for making resolutions for the New Year though it is a long-time tradition. I was looking through an old photograph album of my Grandmother's this evening and came across an interesting tiny piece of paper and recognized her handwriting.
Funny how sometimes there are coincidences like this. Here it is almost the New Year of 2013. And what I read was her New Year's resolution, written in 1916, when my grandmother was about 15 years old. It's almost a hundred years old so this resolution was a real keeper. My Grandma was always the sweetest person, and now I know she worked hard at that.
I think this is one of the best and longest kept New Year's resolutions ever. I hope that this young girl's plans will spill over into all of our lives in the upcoming New Year.
1916
Resolve: That this New Years 1916 will find me a more kind, sweet, good girl to everyone than I've been in the past.
That my life may be of some good use to all I meet in brightening their lives and helping to make everyone happy!
No. 2 Resolve: That under no conditions may I forget those dearest to me. Be considerate of their thoughts and feelings
always and return in some way the kindness they show me.
No. 3 Resolve: That above all what I do always should be for the love and happiness of my Darling Little Mother.

Non sono mai stato uno che fa propositi per il nuovo anno, anche se è una tradizione di lunga data. Stasera stavo sfogliando un vecchio album di fotografie di mia nonna e mi sono imbattuto in un interessante pezzetto di carta e ho riconosciuto la sua calligrafia.

Mia nonna è sempre stata una persona dolcissima e ora so che ha lavorato duro per questo.
Penso che questo sia uno dei propositi per il nuovo anno migliori e più longevi di sempre. Spero che i piani di questa giovane ragazza si riversino nelle nostre vite nel prossimo anno nuovo.

Decidi: che questo Capodanno 1916 mi troverà una ragazza più gentile , dolce e buona con tutti di quanto lo sia stata in passato.
Affinché la mia vita possa essere di qualche utilità a tutti quelli che incontro per illuminare le loro vite e contribuire a rendere tutti felici!
N. 2 Proposito: che in nessun caso io possa dimenticare le persone a me più care. Sii rispettoso dei loro pensieri e sentimenti
sempre e ricambiare in qualche modo la gentilezza che mi dimostrano.
N. 3 Proponi: che soprattutto ciò che faccio dovrebbe essere sempre per l'amore e la felicità della mia cara mammina.

Now i know why they call you "chilly" because that heirloom just gave me the chills it was so touching. It could be a Hallmark greeting card that's for sure. I guess it only goes to show that no matter how much time passes throughout history one of the most important things in life are still the same and never change.
LipsOra so perché ti chiamano "freddino", perché quel cimelio di famiglia mi ha fatto venire i brividi, era così toccante. Potrebbe essere sicuramente un biglietto di auguri Hallmark. Immagino che ciò dimostri solo che, non importa quanto tempo passa nel corso della storia, una delle cose più importanti nella vita è sempre la stessa e non cambia mai.
